The Best Pork Tonkatsu Recipe - Crispy, Juicy & Easy Homemade

Ingredients

Pork Tonkatsu

  • 6 pcs pork chops about 1.3 kg
  • 1 tbsp salt or ¾ tsp if not eating with rice or using more sauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

Breading

  • 3 pcs whole eggs
  • All-purpose flour
  • Breadcrumbs

Homemade Tonkatsu Sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp Knorr Liquid Seasoning
  • 2 tbsp banana ketchup
  • tbsp soy sauce

Others

  • 1 small cabbage
  • tsp salt adjust according to the size of the cabbage
  • Cooking oil for frying

Instructions

Prepare the Pork

  • Wash the pork chops and pat them dry using paper towels.
  • Tenderize each pork chop using a meat mallet or the back of a heavy knife.
  • Place the pork in a bowl.
  • Add the salt, garlic powder, and ground black pepper.
  • Massage the seasonings into the pork using your hands.
  • Set aside while preparing the breading.

Prepare the Breading

  • Beat the eggs in a wide bowl.
  • Place the all-purpose flour on a plate.
  • Place the breadcrumbs on another plate.

Bread the Pork

  • Coat each pork chop with flour.
  • Dip it into the beaten eggs.
  • Coat generously with breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs gently to help them stick.
  • Let the breaded pork rest for at least 10 minutes before frying.

Fry the Pork Tonkatsu

  • Heat enough cooking oil over medium-low heat.
  • Fry each pork chop for about 3 to 4 minutes per side, adjusting the heat between medium-low and medium as needed.
  • Cook until both sides become golden brown.
  • Remove from the oil and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
  • Let the pork rest for a few minutes before slicing.

Prepare the Cabbage

  • Slice the cabbage into thin strips.
  • Place in a bowl.
  • Sprinkle with salt.
  • Toss until evenly coated.
  • Let it sit for several minutes until the cabbage softens slightly and releases moisture.

Make the Homemade Tonkatsu Sauce

  • Combine the sesame oil, sugar, liquid seasoning, ketchup, and soy sauce in a bowl.
  • Mix well until the sugar dissolves.

Assemble

  • Arrange the cabbage on a serving plate.
  • Slice the pork tonkatsu into strips.
  • Place beside the cabbage.
  • Drizzle with the homemade sauce or serve it on the side.
  • Enjoy while hot.
